Paper of the Year Competition

Sponsored by

The National Association of Orthopaedic Technologists is now accepting submissions for the 2017 Paper of the Year Competition (sponsored by BSN medical). Do you have a special technique, area of expertise, or research you'd like to share with your colleagues? Share your knowledge by submitting a paper, article, or case study for publication, and you could win an all-expense-paid trip (up to $1,500) to San Diego to attend the 2017 NAOT Symposium! The following awards will be presented to the authors of the papers/articles selected by the Editorial Review Board:

First Place: All expenses paid (up to $1,500) for one author to attend NAOT's 35th Annual Clinical Symposium in San Diego, CA, along with a $500 cash award. The first-place winner will present their paper at the symposium and will receive a matted and framed copy of their winning article.

Second Place: $200 cash award

Third Place: $100 cash award

Winners will be announced mid-June, 2017, and all winning articles will be published in the Orthotech Professional newsletter. The article chosen for first-place will appear in the June/July 2017 issue. Second and third-place winners will be published in later 2017/2018 issues.

Submitted materials should be original and not simultaneously submitted to any other publication. All articles submitted will undergo a blind review by the NAOT Editorial Review Board. Articles should focus on topics related to orthopaedic technology. Originality, appropriateness, timeliness, accuracy, and grammar will be considered in the review process.

The deadline for entries is Wednesday, May 31, 2017. Only papers received on or prior to the deadline are eligible for the competition. No exceptions will be made. Entries received after the deadline will be held and considered for possible inclusion in future Orthotech Professional newsletters. Only NAOT members (including student members) are eligible for the Paper of the Year Competition.

All submitted articles must be typed and double-spaced. The MLA Style Manual should be followed for paper format.

On a page separate from the body of the paper, include the article title, author’s name, credentials, employer’s name, current title, complete mailing address, email address, and daytime and evening phone numbers.

All papers must include a detailed bibliography of all references used (MLA style preferred).

All photography, graphics, diagrams, etc. should be submitted as high-resolution JPEG files and numbered appropriately to indicate the order in which they should appear in the article. Authors must also indicate within the text of the article the place where their pictures or graphics should appear. Authors should have permission to use all images submitted for publication.

NAOT reserves the right to edit the length, grammar, spelling, and readability of all material submitted. NAOT reserves the right to refuse publication of any article.

All copyrights on material published in the Orthotech Professional will be held by NAOT.

All papers and accompanying images must be submitted as electronic files. Paper text should be in a Microsoft Word document or plain text file, and images should be high-resolution JPEG files. Authors may submit their materials as email attachments to or by mail on a CD or USB thumb drive (recommended if there are very large images that accompany the article).
